scofflaw Recipe

A bold and balanced classic from the Prohibition era, the Scofflaw blends rye whiskey, citrus, and Bartender’s Daughter Grenadine Syrup (or The Shirley) for a drink that’s as vibrant as it is smooth. Whether you prefer the rich depth of grenadine or the fruit-forward tang of The Shirley, this cocktail is a timeless delight.

ServES 1

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 oz (60 ml) rye whiskey

  • 1 oz (30 ml) dry vermouth

  • 0.5 oz (15 ml) lemon juice

  • 0.5 oz (15 ml) Bartender’s Daughter Grenadine Syrup or The Shirley (your choice!)

  • 2 dashes orange bitters

  • Lemon twist for garnish

METHOD

1. Shake

Combine rye whiskey, dry vermouth, lemon juice, Grenadine Syrup or The Shirley, and orange bitters in a shaker with ice. Shake well.

2. Strain

Strain into a chilled coupe glass.

3. Garnish

Express lemon twist over the drink and drop it into the glass for a bright citrus aroma.

Make it a mocktail!

Replace the rye whiskey and dry vermouth with 2 oz (60 ml) chilled black tea. Shake with lemon juice, Grenadine Syrup or The Shirley, and orange bitters. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a lemon twist for a sophisticated alcohol-free option.
